Kroger, the mega supermarket with 3,000 supermarkets is expanding their ‘Marketplace’, which sells home goods, clothing, and kitchen appliances.

This will probably put some pressure on stores like Target and Kohl’s who are already feeling the heat anyway from Walmart, Amazon and anyone selling these items, including groceries online.

I predict that within 5 years shopping malls are going to become distribution centers for products as traditional retailers either go out of business or flee the ‘big boxes’ as the online shopping experience grows and excels in convenience. Walmart will be around, but many of these others, I don’t think won’t. Mainly because of real estate costs to keep stores open, where it is considerably cheaper to have a shop online, where consumers shop with their smart phones more seeking out the best deal and prices.
