As reported by Silicon Beat Facebook, the mammoth social media giant, is closing 40% of its demo stations at Best Buy stores in the US.

Apparently, the Oculus Rift and the need for VR is not generating enough potential customers to get a whiff of the technology.

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, envisions VR technology to allow people to experience social media moments as if they were in person. In the article it was noted that Zuckerberg believed that it will take years before VR takes off and pervades into our way of life like a mobile device.

Facebook purchased Oculus Rift in 2014 for $2 billion, and was later sued by ZeniMax Media claiming the headset technology was stolen. As a result, a jury awarded ZeniMax $500 because it found Facebook guilty  of violating a nondisclosure agreement and infringing on copyright. Facebook is appealing.

It looks like VR is slowing getting out of the technology gate. Maybe the headsets are too large and you cannot shove them in your pocket or clip them to your belt — yet. I still have a big picture scenario for VR and its potential and I think with time will catch on and become a part of the lives of many who embrace it.
